Vipul is Vice President of Engineering for Cisco’s Service Provider Networking business. In this role, he leads all engineering for the company’s highest-end routing platforms powered by the industry-leading IOS XR network operating system. He is responsible for driving innovation, planning, and delivery of next-generation infrastructures and architectures.
Since joining Cisco in Oct 2016, he has led the overhaul of the systems portfolio, including transformational innovation on the merchant-silicon-based NCS55xx, the introduction of the revolutionary Cisco-Silicon-One-based platform, and systems refreshes on Cisco’s flagship ASR9000. Under his leadership, these portfolios have grown market share across Core, Peering, Edge and Aggregation networking.
Vipul and his team continue to innovate to provide simplified, modular, trusted,and programmable network operating systems, and deliver simplified network architectures with converged SDN-enabled IP transport and cloud-native subscriber technologies. Together with Massively Scalable Data Center (MSDC) and other Service Provider customers around the globe, he has led successful co-development efforts that enable industry-leading bandwidth, scale, and operational simplicity, as well as deliver clean architectural network solutions that help our customers navigate today’s most challenging market shifts.
Vipul has a strong track record for building passionate and impactful engineering teams that drive new architectures and build products for the Packet Networking, Optical, and Systems Software markets, spanning both large and startup companies.
Prior to Cisco, Vipul led forwarding software engineering for Juniper’s Development and Innovation team for all of the company’s routing products. In addition to driving Juniper’s move to the Cloud, he led aspects of streaming telemetry, virtualization, and programmability for the company’s entire product portfolio.
Prior to Juniper, Vipul led large engineering teams to build Metro Optical Networks at ONI Systems/Ciena Corporation and embedded real-time operating system (RTOS)products at Windriver Systems.
Vipul has a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Kansas State University, and an Engineering Leadership Certificate from UC Berkeley.
